The Faith of Assyrian People
The Assyrian Empire flourished between 911 BC and 608 BC, before it was conquered by a coalition led by Babylonians, Medes, Persians, Scythians, and Cimmerians.
After the defeat of Asur-Uballit II in 608 BC at Haran, and finally at Carchemish in 605 BC, the Assyrian Empire was abolished and divided.
Faith always had a big role in the life of Assyrian people. It was to them that Jonah came to bring the message of repentance and was accepted by all the people of Nineveh and as a nation the biggest revival of mankind occurred.
It was to them that in the first century King Addai repented with his people and Assyria in the first century became the first Christian Nation.
It is them that according to Kenneth Scott Lautorette became the largest missionary force in history, carrying the Gospel as far as China and Japan. With recent discoveries confirming a presence as early as AD 86 in China.
It is the Assyrians that still speak Aramaic, the language that Jesus Christ spoke.
From the first Century until today Assyrians were always targeted for their Christian faith and paid a big price. They were massacred and suffered greatly by Persians, Mongols, Turks, and Arabs. During World War I and II, nearly 2/3 of the Assyrian population lost their lives for their Christian faith.
